African Music Academy 2024 Awards

African Music Academy announces global award winners

News

FTMI’s partner organisation, the African Music Academy (AMA) has today announced the list of winners for it’s inaugural global prize awards.

The process began in March with the nomination of 72 national winners by a jury of professional organisations representing various music professions: composers, songwriters, main performers, musicians, executive producers and managers. They then elected the regional winners who in turn elected the six global winners.

Congratulations to the following people:

  • Angell Mutoni, Rwanda – Authors Category
  • Thasi Ponda, Dem. Rep. of Congo – Composers Category
  • Petit Miguelito, Benin – Performers Category
  • Sophie Nzayisenga, Rwanda – Musicians Category
  • Jean Paul Nduwimana, Alias Noopja, Rwanda – Producer Category
  • And Liliana Escobar – Ae Agencia, Colombia –Managers Category

Trophies will be presented to recipients at various events around the world rather than during a single ceremony. These winners will form the first members of the Academy’s Honorary Committee.

About the AMA

The AMA is an African initiative created in 2014, whose ambition is to promote pan-African music from the continent and the diaspora. Via educational and professional actions as well as dedicated awards, the Academy works to defend African authors’ rights and related rights whilst keeping them at the core of both the message and the architecture.
