Project Details
Writers & Directors Worldwide has a global remit to support audiovisual authors’ campaigns for fair remuneration. To achieve this, it needed its international expert position and independence to be reinforced, and for its achievements to be highlighted.
We worked with the council’s leadership and key stakeholders to draft positioning statements before writing and designing a new website. This was then translated into French, Spanish and Portuguese. We went on to manage and write content for this site for a number of years before transitioning it to their internal team.
About the Client
Writers & Directors Worldwide is an international not-for-profit organisation that works to protect the rights of writers and directors working in the audiovisual, literary and dramatic repertoires.
Its history stretches back almost 50 years and today, it is active in all regions of the world to facilitate the sharing of ideas, information and best practice to defend authors’ rights in these important artistic repertoires. The organisation acts as an advisory body to the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers and is also an official observer to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights.
Results
The new website has helped to establish credibility and demonstrate progress in an number of international authors’ rights campaigns. These have included the successful revision of national authors’ rights legislation by the presidents of Chile and Colombia in October 2016 and May 2017 respectively. Both countries now have an unwaivable right to remuneration added to their statutes.
After six years and following a change in hosting strategy, the website was migrated to Drupal by CISAC’s internal team using the original design specifications.
